🔥 This Week’s Football Highlights
This edition focuses on dribbling, youth football, mentality and coaching development.
The World’s Best Dribblers 2026/27
What can we learn from players such as Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal and Jérémy Doku?
Body feints, changes of pace, football intelligence and creativity.
More Playing Time – Less Wasted Time
How can we create more ball touches and more active participation in youth football?
The Courage to Make Mistakes
Why should children be encouraged to experiment, challenge opponents and learn from their attempts?
The Importance of Coaches
How do coaching language, body language and behaviour influence player development?
🎩 Dribbling – The Creative Art of Football
A truly skilled dribbler is not necessarily the player who performs the most tricks.
It is about knowing when to challenge an opponent, how to create space and what the next action should be.
Six Essential Dribbling Skills
- ⚡ Explosive acceleration
- 🎩 Body feints and changes of direction
- 👀 Awareness and scanning
- ⚽ Ball control under pressure
- 🧠 Reading the defender
- 🎯 Deciding when to dribble, pass or shoot
What Can Young Players Learn from the Stars?
Players such as Messi, Lamine Yamal and Doku demonstrate the importance of balance, timing and acceleration.
Sometimes one simple change of direction is more effective than five complicated tricks.
👶 More Playing Time – Less Wasted Time
How much of a youth football match is actually spent playing football?
And how much time disappears through throw-ins, goal kicks, waiting and interruptions?
FINTER explores how we can create more activity and better learning opportunities.
Six Ideas for More Active Football
- ⚽ Keep spare footballs ready
- ⏱️ Encourage faster restarts
- 👶 Give children more responsibility
- 🎩 Create more dribbling opportunities
- 🤝 Increase involvement for all players
- 🧠 Encourage awareness and decision-making
However, more playing time does not automatically create better learning.
We should also consider who gets the ball, who makes the decisions and which players might be overlooked.
Should Children Be Allowed to Dribble Back into Play?
During training, coaches can compare throw-ins, kick-ins and dribble-ins.
This makes it possible to explore how different restart methods influence the game.
Official matches must follow the applicable competition rules.

🎯 Training Exercise of the Week – 1v1
A simple and match-relevant exercise for developing dribbling, body feints, acceleration and finishing.
⚽ Organisation
- Players: 4–12
- Pitch: Approximately 12 × 18 metres
- Equipment: Footballs, cones and small goals
- Duration: 10–15 minutes
- Focus: Dribbling, decision-making and acceleration
How to Play
- One attacker starts with the ball.
- One defender stands in front of the attacker.
- The attacker attempts to beat the defender.
- The attacker then tries to score.
